Korea can be a palace walk, a coastal café afternoon, a historic town or a quiet garden visit. This guide compares ten areas rather than squeezing them into one trip. Stay lengths are editorial suggestions for time in each area, with international travel added separately. The Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju articles provide detailed itineraries; the other sections help you choose your next destination.

What each place offers
Seoul · City life and palaces
Gyeongbokgung · Insa-dong · Han River
A useful starting point for a trip mixing palaces, neighbourhood walks and market meals. Give the palace area its own day and the market and river another. If shopping is a priority, leave evenings free and shorten daytime sightseeing.
Getting around: Stay near a station around Myeongdong or Euljiro. Consider the daily journey before choosing accommodation far outside the centre.

Hwaseong Fortress · Hwaseong Haenggung
Choose Suwon to add a fortress city to a Seoul stay. Begin with the palace and a nearby stretch of wall instead of aiming to complete the entire circuit. Leave the remaining time for Haenggung-dong lanes and a meal. It suits an unhurried look at historic spaces.
Getting around: Allow a separate transfer from Suwon Station to the palace area. Choose a shorter wall section if slopes or stairs are difficult.

Gyeongpo Beach · Ojukheon · Anmok Beach
Start with Gangneung if beach walks and café breaks matter more than hiking. Give Gyeongpo one day and combine Ojukheon with your departure route on another. You do not need to move hotels between beaches. An afternoon with just coffee and a short walk can be enough.
Getting around: Gangneung Station is not on the beach. Check bus or taxi connections both to your hotel and to places to eat.

Seoraksan National Park · Sokcho Beach
Choose it for mountain scenery followed by time by the sea. Separate the national park from your town-and-beach day. If you are new to hiking, select a short trail rather than a summit objective. Avoid treating Gangneung and Sokcho as one hotel district with daily return trips.
Getting around: Check trail access and weather, leaving flexibility to swap the mountain day. Do not make a cable-car ride or clear summit view essential to the trip.

Daereungwon · Donggung and Wolji · Bulguksa
Consider Gyeongju for a closer look at an ancient Korean capital. Keep central sites and an evening walk on one day, with the Bulguksa area on another. Start around Daereungwon and build in breaks. Choose a few sites with museum context or interpretation instead of collecting names.
Getting around: Allow a transfer from the arriving railway station to the centre. Compare a central stay with the Bomun area against your actual sightseeing plan.

Gamcheon · Jagalchi · Haeundae · Gwangalli
A good fit if you want the sea alongside city dining and public transport. Separate the old town and the beaches to reduce repeated cross-city trips. Consider a beachfront stay for longer sea time, or Seomyeon for exploring several districts.
Getting around: Decide whether sea views or connections matter more. Plan arrivals at Busan Station separately from arrivals at Gimhae Airport.

Jeonju Hanok Village · Gyeonggijeon
Choose Jeonju for lanes and leisurely meals rather than a long sightseeing circuit. Split the village between an afternoon and the following morning for a different pace from a day trip. For a hanok stay, compare beds or floor bedding, bathrooms and sound insulation rather than photos alone.
Getting around: Include the transfer from Jeonju Station to the village. A walking-focused stay works best after sorting out luggage storage and check-in.

Suncheonman National Garden · Suncheonman Wetland
Consider Suncheon for plants and open landscapes. Treat the national garden and wetland as separate visits; giving each a day makes it easier to adapt to a slower walking pace. If combining them in one day, reduce the ambition to cover every part of both.
Getting around: Check transfers between each entrance and your hotel. Reduce exposure to rain or heat and decide how you will return before setting out.

Gongsanseong · Royal Tombs · Jeongnimsa Temple Site
Choose Baekje sites for a different historical period from Gyeongju. Separate Gongju and Buyeo into individual days, mixing museum time with outdoor sites. On a short trip, staying in just one city can give you more time to connect exhibits with the places you visit.
Getting around: These cities are not one walkable district. Choose your accommodation after checking intercity travel and the final journey back from the sites.

Seongsan Ilchulbong · Coastal walks
Set aside a separate Jeju segment for nature after a city trip. Choose a main area, such as the east or Seogwipo, instead of circling every side on a first visit. Separate a Seongsan Ilchulbong outing from a day near your accommodation so you can adapt to changing weather.
Getting around: Jeju is not connected to mainland rail. Arrange flights or ferries separately from island transport. Without a car, select accommodation around bus stops or tour meeting points.

For a first week
Consider three nights in Seoul, two in Gyeongju and one in Busan, followed by departure on day seven. This is a route sketch, not a timed itinerary: reserve intercity transport and allow for hotel transfers. It works most naturally with arrival near Seoul and departure near Busan. Add a night if you must return to Incheon for an early flight.
For a quieter short break
Choose one base: Gangneung for the coast, Jeonju for lanes and meals, or Suncheon for gardens and wetlands. Keep one main outing per day and leave room to return to your hotel. A second city is optional, not a requirement.
Without driving
Start by checking the last connection from the attraction, not just the train to the city. Save Korean place names and hotel addresses alongside English names. In smaller towns, a station-front hotel and an attraction-side hotel solve different problems; compare dinner options and the return trip before booking.
With children or older travellers
A short route is not automatically an easy route. Check steps, slopes, toilets, shade and the distance from the entrance to the main sight. For gardens and beaches, choose a shorter section with a place to sit. Keep an indoor alternative and avoid relying on a festival, cable car or boat operating on a particular day.
