Jeju in 4 days: the east coast and Seogwipo

2026. 09. 093 NIGHTS · 4 DAYS

ARC RECORD · SOUTH KOREA

One night in Jeju City, two in Seogwipo.

Distances on Jeju add up quickly. Start with a night in Jeju City, travel through Seongsan and Seopjikoji on day two, then spend two nights in Seogwipo. The example assumes two adults arriving early afternoon and departing after 18:00 on day four. It uses a rental car or pre-arranged vehicle; a bus-only trip needs fewer stops. Western cafés, Udo and a Hallasan hike belong in a different version of the trip.

A proposed itinerary based on official tourism and property sources, not a firsthand review or live booking quote. Travel times are planning estimates. Suggested visit times are not opening hours. All times are local to South Korea.

Your day-by-day route

DAY 01

An easy arrival in Jeju City

  1. 01Assume arrival around 13:00. Allow 60–90 minutes for luggage and collecting a car or meeting your driver. Shorten sightseeing if delayed.
  2. 0215:00 Check in to your Jeju City hotel. A northern first night avoids a rushed drive to Seogwipo immediately after arrival.
  3. 0316:00 Take a short walk along the Tapdong waterfront. In high waves, stay away from exposed edges and choose an indoor break.
  4. 0417:30 Have an early dinner around Dongmun Market. Ordinary shops and evening food stalls do not all keep the same hours.
  5. 0519:00 Return to your hotel and confirm tomorrow’s transport and check-in arrangements. Store food purchases correctly rather than leaving them in the car overnight.

The photograph shows the actual market entrance, not a promise that any particular stall will be open. Add immigration time for an international arrival.

DAY 02

Seongsan, Seopjikoji and the journey south

  1. 0108:00 Breakfast, check-out and departure for Seongsan. Allow roughly 70–100 minutes by car from Jeju City, then adjust for your exact starting point and traffic.
  2. 02Around 10:00, visit Seongsan Ilchulbong. Allow about 90 minutes for the summit route if open and suitable for your group. Otherwise use the lower open walking area.
  3. 0312:00 Lunch in the Seongsan area. Choose a place with manageable parking and waiting time before the onward drive.
  4. 0413:30 Allow about an hour for Seopjikoji. In strong wind, choose just one of the two exposed coastal visits and follow access restrictions.
  5. 05Depart for central Seogwipo around 15:00 and aim to check in at 16:30–17:00. Have dinner nearby, unpack and rest.

The photograph is the crater viewed from the summit; the lower walk does not offer the same view. Keep valuables with you and luggage out of sight during the hotel-transfer day.

DAY 03

Jeongbang Waterfall and a day in Seogwipo

  1. 01After breakfast at 08:30, travel to Jeongbang Waterfall. Aim for 09:30 after checking access and allow 60–90 minutes for the steps and visit.
  2. 02Rocks below the waterfall can be slippery. Stay within the marked viewing area. If steps are difficult, choose an indoor alternative instead of forcing the descent.
  3. 0311:30 Lunch around Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market. Save your parking location and any time limit before walking the lanes.
  4. 0413:00 Rest at the hotel. Around 15:30, choose one nearby café or coastal viewpoint. If yesterday’s eastern outing was cancelled, replace today’s plan rather than stacking both together.
  5. 0518:00 Final dinner in Seogwipo. Confirm tomorrow’s airport route, fuel stop, car-return location and any shuttle arrangements.

Jeongbang, Cheonjiyeon and Jungmun’s Cheonjeyeon are different waterfalls. Use the exact name in your map and never assume access during severe weather.

DAY 04

Return to Jeju City with time for the airport

  1. 01After breakfast at 08:30, check out and leave for Jeju City around 09:30. Choose the route using current mountain-road weather and closure notices.
  2. 02Allow 90–120 minutes for the transfer. In traffic or deteriorating weather, drop sightseeing beyond lunch and continue towards the airport.
  3. 0312:00 Lunch in Jeju City. A short Dongmun stop is possible if missed on arrival, but protect your car-return time. A café break is enough if you already visited.
  4. 04Use arrival at the terminal two hours before a domestic flight or three hours before an international flight as a planning buffer, then check your airline’s deadlines. Fuel, car return and the shuttle come before that buffer.
  5. 05For flights before 18:00, shorten the market or café stop. If a typhoon may affect operations, prioritise airline notices and possible extra accommodation.

Even near the airport, the rental return site may be separate from the terminal. Do not add another trip to Udo or Seongsan on departure day.

PLAN WITH A REASON

Why this route works

For bus-only travel, simplify the route

The timing assumes a vehicle. Bus transfers and waiting make the same plan slower. Use one base and consider a verified day tour or arranged vehicle for the east, or choose either Seongsan or Seopjikoji.

Central Seogwipo is not Jungmun

The southern hotel options below relate to central Seogwipo. A Jungmun resort changes the market and waterfall journeys. For a resort-focused holiday, shorten the eastern day and rebuild the plan around Jungmun.

Confirm vehicle arrangements before booking

Ask the rental company about each driver’s accepted documents, age, experience and cover. International visitors should not assume a home-country licence alone is sufficient. For a chauffeured vehicle, confirm the total price and waiting, meal and parking terms.

EAT ALONG THE ROUTE

Dongmun Market meal

A first-night option near the city base. Check each stall’s menu, hygiene and price rather than relying on evening stall schedules.

DAY 2 · LUNCH

Lunch around Seongsan

For abalone or fish, check minimum orders and set contents. Find alternative dishes in advance if anyone avoids seafood.

Official information ↗

DAY 3 · LUNCH

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market

A central lunch option after the waterfall. Consider seating and toilets rather than relying entirely on takeaway snacks.

DAY 4 · LUNCH

Noodles or a set meal in Jeju City

A pre-airport meal. Ask about pork stock in meat noodles and favour a short wait over a famous queue.

BUDGET WORKSHEET

A sample budget per person

Shared room · 3 nightsKRW 150,000 × 3 ÷ 2 = 225,000
Meals and cafés · 4 daysKRW 45,000 × 4 = 180,000
Car, cover, fuel and parkingKRW 180,000
Admission and contingencyKRW 35,000

The example totals KRW 620,000 per person. It assumes two people share a KRW 360,000 vehicle-related allocation, not a quote. Flights and chauffeured transport are excluded; replace the vehicle allocation with your actual chauffeur quote if chosen. At KRW 100,000 per room per night, the total is KRW 545,000; at KRW 220,000, it is KRW 725,000.

KRW means South Korean won. These are illustrative allocations, not rates quoted by the hotels or restaurants above. Flights, shopping, alcohol, massages and extra activities without a separate allocation are excluded.
