Yilan and Jiaoxi in 4 days: scenery and hot springs

To Jiaoxi hot spring village via Taipei

1. 01Assuming you arrive at Taoyuan Airport around 10:00, 60–90 minutes will be allocated for immigration and baggage collection.
2. 02Take the Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station and transfer to the TRA train. Allow approximately 60 minutes of transfer time between the two stations, as well as walking time and lunch.
3. 03Plan on taking Taipei→Jiaoxi for about 1.5–2.5 hours depending on the train you choose, be sure to check if it stops at Jiaoxi. Not all trains to Yilan stop at Jiaoxi.
4. 04Aim to arrive at your accommodation at 15:00–16:30. After checking the room preparation and operation of the bathing facilities, we take a short break.
5. 05In the evening, take a short walk around Tangweigou Hot Springs Park and eat at a nearby restaurant. Check separate terms and conditions for foot soaking areas and paid bathing facilities.

If your flight arrives in the afternoon, transfer and check-in are sufficient for the first day. Throw in Taipei sightseeing and you'll have less time to stay at hot springs accommodation. Please check train times based on your travel date on Taiwan Railway.

See Yilan's geography and life at Lanyang Museum

1. 0108:30 After breakfast, depart from Jiaoxi to Toucheng. TRA section trains take approximately 10–20 minutes plus waiting time.
2. 02Travel the final section from Toucheng Station to Lanyang Museum by taxi. If you use the bus, check whether it stops at the Usu Port transfer stop and the return service.
3. 0309:30–12:00 Tour the museum’s exhibitions and exterior. Rather than just taking pictures of the exterior and leaving, give time to exhibits that cover the terrain, wetlands, and local life.
4. 0412:00–13:30 Have lunch at Toucheng and take a short walk through the old city center. When eating at the port, check the weight unit and total amount on the menu first.
5. 0515:00–16:00 Return to Jiaoxi accommodation to enjoy hot springs and relaxation. Even if the view is good, don't extend your coastal walk on a windy day.

The main building of Lanyang Museum is 09:00–17:00, ticket sales close at 16:30 at the time of confirmation, and is closed on Wednesdays. If it overlaps with Wednesday, switch the order with the third day. The official calendar takes precedence over public holidays and temporary closures.

Starting from Yilan Station, you can enjoy picture book scenery and local food.

1. 0109:00 Take the TRA from Jiaoxi Station to Yilan Station. Spend the morning loosely, adding about 10–20 minutes of waiting time for your train.
2. 02At Jimmy Park near Yilan Station, see a sculpture based on the works of picture book author Jimmy Liao. This is a small walking area, different from the large theme parks with rides.
3. 0311:00–12:30 Have lunch in downtown Yilan. If you would like to eat sirloin or duck dishes, check the amount you can order for 2 people and the reservation conditions.
4. 04In the afternoon, relax at a downtown cafe or walk a little further around the station. If it rains heavily, shorten the outdoor section and return to Jiaoxi early.
5. 05After returning to the accommodation around 16:00, you will have your last hot spring session. Adding Luodong Night Market would delay the return, so we did not include it as a basic itinerary in this itinerary.

Toucheng is to the north of Jiaoxi, and downtown Yilan is to the south. Dividing the two areas into one day rather than traveling back and forth on the same day can reduce the number of ride trips and transfers.

On the day of departure, secure transportation from the hot spring village to the airport first.

1. 0107:30 Check out after breakfast and packing. If you want to take an extra bath on the last day, compare your flight and check-out times first.
2. 02Around 09:00, catch the train departing from Jiaoxi and return to Taipei. If you have selected reserved seating, check the travel date and train number.
3. 03At Taipei Main Station, transfer to the Airport MRT. Considering train delays, moving around the station, and eating, we allocate 4–5 hours for the Jiaoxi → Airport trip.
4. 04For international flights, aim to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure. This schedule is an example of comparing flights departing after 18:00 first.
5. 05If you have an earlier flight, consider switching your last night to Taipei or nearby the airport. In this case, the accommodation structure will be different from the Jiaoxi 3-night itinerary.

The road from Jiaoxi to Taipei can be busy on weekends and holidays. Don’t rely solely on the normal travel time for direct vehicles and schedule your departure date tightly. Trains are also likely to be delayed, so you need extra time.
