ARC RECORD · INDONESIA
Curious about Bali beyond the beach? Spend three nights in Ubud, with time for rice terraces, a water temple and a ridge walk.
For two adults arriving at Bali’s DPS airport before noon and departing after 6 pm on Day 4. Keep arrival day light because the road transfer to Ubud can be long in traffic. A central hotel and an outlying valley resort offer different evenings: compare the journey back after dinner before booking.
A proposed itinerary based on official tourism and property sources, not a firsthand review or live booking quote. Travel times are planning estimates. Suggested visit times are not opening hours. All times are local to Indonesia.
MAKE IT YOUR TRIP
Keep the moments you came for
Make time for this
Enjoy different sides of Ubud through terraces, the water temple and a ridge walk. Ayung rafting replaces the terrace day, with hotel rest afterward.
Arrange the trip around it
A central hotel and valley resort offer different walking access. Confirm the terrace entrance, vehicle waiting and any ritual participation separately rather than inferring inclusions from photos.

3 NIGHTS · 4 DAYS
Your day-by-day route
Arrive in Ubud and walk around the palace

Ubud Palace (photographed in 2022)
Jakub Hałun · Resized · CC BY-SA 4.0- 01Take a reserved transfer from DPS to your hotel, allowing into the afternoon for arrival procedures, luggage and traffic.
- 02Leave your bags or check in, have lunch and take a break. Save outlying sights for another day if arrival is late.
- 03In the late afternoon, visit public areas of Ubud Palace and nearby streets, respecting boundaries around residential and ceremonial spaces.
- 04Eat in the centre and confirm tomorrow’s transport. Add a performance only after checking the current programme and seats.
A palace visit and an evening performance are separate activities; the photographed spaces may not all be open during your visit.
A morning around Tegallalang’s rice terraces

Tegallalang rice terraces (photographed in 2014)
Philip Nalangan · Resized · CC BY 4.0- 01After breakfast, travel to Tegallalang and agree on the visitor entrance and return pickup.
- 02Use permitted paths to see the terrace layers and water channels. Allow roughly 60–90 minutes, shortening the walk for slopes or heat.
- 03Have lunch with a view, checking separate charges for swings or staged photo installations.
- 04Back in Ubud, keep the afternoon at your hotel for a restful trip. If you enjoy art, choose one gallery along your route for 60–90 minutes with the works and a tea break. Leave distant waterfalls for another day.
These are working fields. Their colour changes with the crop cycle and may differ from the photograph.
Visit Tirta Empul with time to observe

Chainwit. · Resized · CC BY 4.0- 01Travel to Tirta Empul in the morning and check dress requirements, public areas and current visitor arrangements at the entrance.
- 02Make observation the default: look at the buildings and water channels. Decide separately about a purification ritual after receiving guidance, without interrupting worship for photographs.
- 03Have lunch in the area and return to Ubud, with waiting and parking charges agreed in advance.
- 04Eat near your hotel and prepare shoes for a short walk, confirming the airport transfer time.
Religious use takes priority. The itinerary works without entering the water.
A short Campuhan walk before the airport

Campuhan Ridge Walk in Ubud (photographed in 2012)
Tigerente · Resized · CC BY-SA 4.0- 01If weather and footing permit, take a short early out-and-back on the public Campuhan Ridge path, setting a turnaround for a 45–60 minute outing.
- 02Return for breakfast, a shower and check-out. Skip the walk in rain and use the time to pack.
- 03Have an early lunch and collect bags. Set your transfer time using current traffic and the airline’s check-in deadline.
- 04Keep the airport transfer free of sightseeing stops. For an earlier flight, replace the walk with an earlier departure.
An evening flight doesn’t remove traffic risk; reserve the airport buffer first.
PLAN WITH A REASON
Why this route works
Choosing an Ubud base
Compare palace-area hotels for meals and walks, and southern or valley properties for time at the hotel. Verify any shuttle timetable and final departure rather than assuming a free service.
Separate driving from walking
The terraces and water temple are separate road outings. Ask quotes to specify driving hours, waiting and parking, and plan a ride back from outlying areas after dark.
With friends, swap the focus of a day
If an outdoor experience appeals more, replace day three’s temple outing with an Ayung River rafting trip. Indonesia’s tourism board lists rafting among Ubud experiences; this guide does not endorse an operator. Confirm pickup, total duration, age and health requirements, weather, insurance and cancellation terms, and add the separate cost. Rest afterward rather than fitting the temple into the same day.
