SOKCHO + SEORAKSAN · 2 NIGHTS / 3 DAYS

After Seoul, mountains meet the sea.

Give Seoraksan its own day and leave slower moments for Sokcho’s coast. This three-day trip uses buses and occasional taxis, with one hotel for two nights and no rental car.

Information checked 15 September 2026. A researched itinerary based on official guidance, not a first-hand review. Suggested timings need adjustment for traffic and weather.

First, match the bus terminals

This plan uses Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. If you choose Dong Seoul or a ticket arriving at Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal, recalculate the hotel transfer: the two Sokcho terminals are separate.

Travel time, booking and local connections
  • Use 2.5–3 hours as a planning starting point for the bus ride, adding terminal access, stops and traffic. Your chosen service’s booking screen determines its scheduled time and fare.
  • Secure seats both ways for weekends and foliage season. Payment and verification conditions can vary even on an English booking screen: confirm a completed payment and issued ticket. If payment fails, ask the terminal counter or your accommodation about booking options before travel day.
  • Save your hotel’s Korean name and 설악산소공원 in your map. Check the stops, direction and return service for buses 7 / 7-1; compare taxi availability and an estimate if running late.

DAY 1

Meet the sea and settle into Sokcho

  1. Morning

Take a morning bus from Seoul. Match both terminals to your ticket and ask your hotel about luggage storage before arriving.

  2. Afternoon

After lunch, allow 45–60 minutes for a beach walk. You do not need to walk the full length of the sand: sit with a sea view, then return for check-in.

  3. Finish the day

Have dinner near your hotel and rest. If the bus arrives late, keep only a short beach stop and save the mountain for tomorrow.

DAY 2

Seoraksan, at your own pace

An autumn scene in Seoraksan National Park. The exact stream location is unconfirmed; this is not a promised viewpoint on the short base walk.

  1. Morning

After breakfast, check bus 7 or 7-1 toward Seoraksan Sogongwon. Use 60–90 minutes from your hotel as a generous planning allowance, with more time for queues and autumn traffic.

  2. Afternoon

The base plan is a short out-and-back around Sogongwon and Sinheungsa. Allow 1.5–2.5 hours on site for scenery and pauses; compare the options below only if you want more walking.

  3. Finish the day

Return to your city base after lunch and a break. If you choose the cable car or a longer walk, keep dinner nearby instead of adding another beach outing.

DAY 3

One more sea view, then back to Seoul

  1. Morning

Check out, leave your bags by arrangement and travel to Yeonggeumjeong. Check bus or taxi access and the final walk, then allow 30–45 minutes by the pavilion. A sunrise alarm is not required.

  2. Afternoon

Lunch around the Tourist & Fishery Market is one option. This example assumes a return bus after 16:00: work backwards for bag collection and the terminal transfer. Without bag storage, keep the morning near your hotel instead.

  3. Finish the day

Plan to reach the terminal on your ticket at least 30 minutes before departure. Leave your international departure for the following day or later, rather than relying on an immediate airport connection after the bus.

How much mountain walking feels right?

Default · Sogongwon and Sinheungsa

Keep the route flexible and turn back when ready. This is not a claim of a fully accessible route: check steps, surfaces and toilet access locally, and shorten it for strollers or reduced mobility.

More walking · toward Biseondae

An alternative valley walk, replacing the short base outing. Check the park’s route distance, difficulty and entry hours, then allow for the return and breaks. Keep the afternoon free and do not append Ulsanbawi.

Optional · Seorak Cable Car

At the review date, tickets are sold on site on the day, without advance reservations; the standard return fare for middle-school age and older is KRW 16,000. Wind or bad weather can stop service. Upper rocky viewpoints are not all easy walking, and the return must also be by cable car.

Daily operation, fares and boarding ↗

If heavy rain or restrictions affect the mountain, rest at your hotel or have a city meal. The pavilion and beach are not substitutes in strong winds or rough seas. Do not squeeze a mountain trip in before your return bus on Day 3.

By the beach, or in the lake-side city centre?

Default base · express terminal / Sokcho Beach

This itinerary assumes two nights in one property in this area. It keeps arrival and departure logistics close to the first-day beach outing. Check separate routes from the exact hotel address to the terminal, beach and Seoraksan-bound stop.

Before booking, check the actual walk, lift, bag storage, nighttime noise, beds, breakfast and cancellation terms. Sea views depend on the booked room category.

City alternative · Sea Cruise Hotel Sokcho

A city-centre option at 273 Cheongchohoban-ro. It is not beside the express terminal or Sokcho Beach, so add a bus or taxi connection for the beach and return terminal. Compare it if city dining and a lake-side base appeal.

Check the exact room’s beds and view, breakfast and luggage-storage terms. Views differ by category. The photograph below shows the actual exterior; the sample budget is not a quote for this hotel.

Keep meals along your route

Eat near your beach base on Day 1. For the mountain day, arrange breakfast and water before leaving, then have dinner back in town. At the market on the final day, compare dishes such as dakgangjeong and squid sundae; this is not an endorsement of a specific restaurant’s hours or ratings.

Squid sundae, broths and sauces may contain seafood or meat. Ask about allergies and vegetarian requirements before ordering; for seafood, confirm the total including weight, preparation and table charges.

A working budget for three days

A planning allocation for two adults sharing one room for two nights. These are not quoted hotel rates or a transport tariff; replace them with your actual booking totals.

ItemPer-person example
Two hotel nightsKRW 140,000 × 2 ÷ 2 = 140,000
Return bus allocationKRW 70,000
Meals & cafés, 3 daysKRW 30,000 × 3 = 90,000
Local buses & taxisKRW 40,000
ContingencyKRW 30,000
TotalKRW 370,000

At KRW 220,000 per room per night, the per-person total becomes KRW 450,000. Add the optional standard cable-car return fare of KRW 16,000 separately. Flights, airport transfers, Seoul accommodation, paid tours and shopping are excluded.

Three different days after Seoul

Sea on arrival, mountains on the middle day and a final coastal view before leaving. Give your favourite scene time, and keep the rest light.
