ARC RECORD · SINGAPORE
See the neighbourhood between meals instead of chasing a long food list.
A two-night route for two adults already in Singapore on the first morning. Visit Tiong Bahru’s market and residential streets, Jalan Besar’s shophouses and Dempsey’s dining area on different days. This complements the Katong and Chinatown routes with a comparison of hawker meals, cafés and restaurants. Meal stops are options, not reservations.
A proposed itinerary based on official tourism and property sources, not a firsthand review or live booking quote. Travel times are planning estimates. Suggested visit times are not opening hours. All times are local to Singapore.

Your day-by-day route
Start at Tiong Bahru Market

Kbseah · Resized · CC BY-SA 4.0- 01Go to Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre in the morning and choose from open stalls without building the day around one long queue.
- 02After eating, choose a nearby stretch of the official heritage trail around Seng Poh Road, leaving residential entrances and stairs clear.
- 03Have a light or later lunch and a café break. Compare market and café prices without ordering extra just to complete a list.
- 04Return to the hotel in the late afternoon and eat nearby, leaving distant restaurants for another trip.
Photograph homes from public streets. Adapt to individual stall rest days and café seating availability.
Jalan Besar and Lavender: shophouses and meals

Diego Delso · Resized · CC BY-SA 4.0- 01Take the MRT or bus to the Jalan Besar–Lavender area, then make a short walk and identify an open meal stop.
- 02Read neighbourhood trail signs and look at shophouse façades, keeping the day within this area rather than repeating all of Little India.
- 03Take a proper indoor break after lunch and choose a coffee stop without stacking several dessert orders.
- 04Walk a little more when the sun eases, then return to the hotel and choose dinner around your energy and remaining budget.
Ingredients and allergy handling vary by outlet. Do not infer vegetarian or halal suitability from a name alone.
Take time over one meal at Dempsey Hill

Terence Ong · Resized · CC BY 2.5- 01Store bags after checkout and travel to Dempsey Hill, checking the chosen restaurant’s building number and access.
- 02Build the day around brunch or lunch if reserved; otherwise use the official tenant list for an operating alternative.
- 03After eating, take a short walk along public paths past conserved buildings and greenery, choosing indoor rest in strong heat.
- 04Collect bags in the afternoon and resume your city stay. For an airport transfer, finish the meal earlier to protect the buffer.
Dempsey dining can cost more than hawker meals. Check taxes, service charges and cancellation terms before committing.
PLAN WITH A REASON
Why this route works
One hotel, one food neighbourhood a day
Combining all three areas in one day can add transfers and too much food. Keep one city hotel and visit one neighbourhood daily, with room to rest or adapt to rain.
Budget differently for markets and restaurants
The food budget is a daily average. Savings at a market may fund a Dempsey meal, but compare totals including drinks, dessert and service charges.
