Singapore in 4 days: riverside walks, gardens and hawker meals

2026. 09. 093 NIGHTS · 4 DAYS

ARC RECORD · SINGAPORE

Start by the river, give the gardens a day, and leave time for the airport.

This first visit is for two adults sharing a room for three nights around City Hall, Bras Basah or Bencoolen. The route separates the river, Marina Bay, Chinatown and Little India, leaving Sentosa for another trip. It assumes arrival before noon and departure after 6 pm on the last day. Shorten the first walk after a late arrival; skip Jewel for an earlier flight.

A proposed itinerary based on official tourism and property sources, not a firsthand review or live booking quote. Travel times are planning estimates. Suggested visit times are not opening hours. All times are local to Singapore.

Your day-by-day route

DAY 01

Arrive, settle in and walk by the Singapore River

  1. 01Clear immigration, collect bags and travel to your hotel. A basic rail route runs from Changi Airport to Tanah Merah, then transfers to a city-bound East West Line train.
  2. 02Ask about luggage storage if the room is not ready and have lunch nearby. Choose an indoor break if the flight has left you tired.
  3. 03In the late afternoon, head from the City Hall area towards the river. Pick a manageable 60–90 minute section around Boat Quay or Clarke Quay.
  4. 04Have dinner by the river and return to the hotel. A cruise is optional: check that day’s sailings and last departure separately.

Allow generous time for immigration and transfers. The walking duration is a planning choice, not a required distance.

DAY 02

Spend a day around Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay

  1. 01After breakfast, travel to Bayfront and take a short waterfront walk. There is no need to complete a full circuit of the bay for photographs.
  2. 02Choose one currently available conservatory package after checking maintenance dates. Allow roughly two to three hours around lunch for the visit.
  3. 03Take an air-conditioned meal break or return to your hotel in the afternoon. Avoid spending the whole midday period walking outdoors.
  4. 04Walk around the Supertrees in the evening. Check the official schedule if you want to include a light-and-music performance.

Conservatories close on different maintenance dates. Check before booking and swap this day with Day 3 if needed. Observation decks and the Skyway are optional extras.

DAY 03

Lunch in Chinatown, an afternoon in Little India

  1. 01Walk through Chinatown in the morning and enter only public areas of religious sites. Follow posted dress and photography rules.
  2. 02Choose lunch at Maxwell Food Centre. Consider other open stalls rather than waiting indefinitely for one famous vendor, and check prices and payment methods before ordering.
  3. 03Take the MRT towards Little India, then stop for a drink and a break. Do not walk the entire distance between neighbourhoods in the heat.
  4. 04Explore a short stretch around Serangoon Road and eat at Tekka Centre or near the hotel. Include a temple only when visitor access is available.

Individual stalls have different rest days, so no particular dish is guaranteed. Ask about ingredients and shared cooking equipment if you have an allergy.

DAY 04

Visit Jewel before immigration, with the flight taking priority

  1. 01Have breakfast, check out and collect your bags. Head directly to the airport rather than planning another return to the hotel.
  2. 02For a flight after 6 pm, Jewel can be an optional stop. It is landside, before departure immigration, so allow separately for terminal transfers and luggage arrangements.
  3. 03Spend a little time around the Rain Vortex viewing area and have lunch. Do not automatically add every paid attraction.
  4. 04Follow your airline’s instructions and plan to reach the departure terminal about three hours before an international flight. Allow extra transfer time for Terminal 4.

Skip Jewel for an early flight, long check-in queues or waterfall maintenance. The historical photograph does not guarantee current operation.

PLAN WITH A REASON

Why this route works

Choose a base for the city route

City Hall and Bras Basah suit the river and bay days; Bencoolen is useful to compare for Little India. Check the walk from the actual hotel entrance and the number of train changes.

Keep the two full days flexible

Do not force an outdoor walk during thunder or heavy rain. Check ticket change conditions before rearranging conservatories, meal stops and indoor breaks; indoor attractions can also have queues or closures.

EAT ALONG THE ROUTE

Food without the detour

Day 1 dinner

Singapore River meal stop

Compare displayed menus and service charges around Clarke Quay. If waterfront dining exceeds your allocation, eat near the hotel and use the river just for a walk.

Official information ↗

Day 2 lunch

Dining at Gardens by the Bay

Choose an operating outlet convenient to your conservatory visit. Satay by the Bay has a closure notice from 1 October 2026, so it is not a fixed stop here.

Official information ↗

Day 3 lunch

Maxwell Food Centre

A hawker-centre stop after the Chinatown walk. Consider chicken rice or another available meal, depending on stall openings and queues.

Official information ↗

Day 3 dinner option

Tekka Centre

A meal option in Little India. Check spice levels and meat ingredients; choose another nearby restaurant if many stalls have closed when you arrive.
