Penghu in 4 days: villages, bridges and the sea

From Penghu Airport to Magong, the first day is an old alley.

1. 01Assume your flight arrives at Penghu Airport around 13:00. Claim your baggage and confirm your reserved car or hotel pickup.
2. 02Plan on about a 15–25 minute drive from the airport to downtown Magong. After leaving our luggage at the hotel, we have lunch and rest until check-in time.
3. 03Check in after 15:00 and walk around Central Old Street, Siyanjing, and Tianhu Palace around 16:00. The temple gives priority to guiding worshipers and on-site tours.
4. 04Dinner is served at Magong with seafood or noodles. Rather than choosing several plates of expensive seafood from the beginning, check the number of people, cooking method, and price unit.
5. 05If the weather is stable, take a short walk to the coast around Gwaneumjeong Pavilion. We do not assume that events or fireworks are held every day.

If you are connecting domestically in Taipei, distinguish between Songshan Airport (TSA) and Taoyuan Airport (TPE). The airport you arrive at in Korea and the airport you depart for Penghu may be different. Domestic flights on the first day are confirmed first at the time when actual connection is possible.

After Tongliang and the bridge, to Erkan and basalt

1. 0108:30 Departure from Magong by vehicle with reserved driver. Compare tour vehicles in the 6–8 hour range, checking driver waiting, parking, overtime, and language requirements.
2. 0209:15–10:00 Take a short break after seeing the village and temples around Tongliang Ancient Tree. Approximately 35–50 minutes of vehicle travel is the planned value based on the center of Magong.
3. 03Cross the Penghu Bridge and go to the demonstration. Photos will be taken from viewpoints where parking is permitted and no parking will be taken in the bridge lanes.
4. 04Around 11:00, spend approximately 60–90 minutes in Erkan Traditional Village. Since the alley is a living space, do not enter the house or open the door to take pictures.
5. 05After lunch, view the Daguoye Columnar Jointed Basalt from the official viewing area. If there are closures or restrictions, skip the visit and increase your stay in the village or cafe.
6. 0615:30–16:30 Aim to return to Magong. Rather than keep adding coastal attractions, spend the late afternoon at your hotel.

An official notice from 2026 informs the closure of the Xiaomen Whale Cave and Crater Lake Trail trails due to the risk of falling rocks. It is not included in this itinerary. In other geological attractions such as Daguoye, please do not approach or climb the rock walls and follow the latest control zones.

South Shanshui Beach, relax at Magong in the afternoon

1. 0108:30 After breakfast, go to Shanshui Beach. Expect a 20–30 minute ride from Magong and also provide an appointment for the return ride.
2. 0209:00–10:30 Short walk around the beach and town. The basis of this itinerary is walking, and swimming is optional when allowed, on-site guidance, and when the waves are right on the day.
3. 03Around 11:00 we return to Magong and have lunch. If you want to eat on the beach, check in advance which restaurants are open on the day of your visit.
4. 0414:00–16:00 Rest at hotel or cafe in town. I walk around the old city center, which I couldn't see the day before, a little further after the temperature drops.
5. 05In the evening, look at brown sugar cakes or cookies for gifts and check the storage temperature and expiration date. I finish my shopping with more time than before my last flight.

If other islands such as Chimei or Jibei are the focus of your trip, swap them for the entire day. Departure port, return time, and weather cancellation conditions must be confirmed first. Do not add too much of a half-day afternoon cruise or boat tour, which must be done according to the tide.

Return to Taiwan main island and prepare for return connection

1. 01After breakfast, we pack our bags and check the airline status. If the weather changes, prioritize travel adjustments over beach walks or additional sightseeing.
2. 02Plan to arrive at the airport about 2 hours before domestic flight departure, and depart from downtown Magong about 2.5 hours before, including waiting for the vehicle. For actual check-in deadlines, airline information takes priority.
3. 03For example, if the flight departs at 12:00, it will depart downtown around 09:30. If your flight is earlier, breakfast and check-out will be earlier.
4. 04You will be transferred to the next accommodation from your booked arrival airport, such as Taipei·Taichung·Kaohsiung. We will first consider staying on the main island for one night and returning to the international flight the next day.
5. 05If you have an international connection on the same day, check for separate ticketing protection, baggage recheck-in, and transfers between airports. We do not determine that a transfer is possible simply based on the time difference between the two flights.

One night on the main island is only an allowance for delays and is not a guarantee to completely resolve flight cancellations. When typhoons or strong winds are expected, you should check the change/cancellation conditions of the airline and accommodation in advance.
