Chiang Rai in 4 days: White Temple, Blue Temple and Baan Dam

Airport arrival and an easy city afternoon

1. 01Assuming arrival before 13:00, collect your bags and use a reserved vehicle or official transport information to reach the hotel. Allow roughly 20–40 minutes for the city or Kok River area.
2. 02Leave your bags, have lunch and rest once check-in opens. Early room access and airport pickup are not automatically included with a room booking.
3. 03Later, take a short walk around the city clock tower or stop at a café. From a riverside hotel, arrange return transport or simply enjoy the hotel gardens.
4. 04Eat in town or at the hotel. Check current operation if visiting the Night Bazaar, and do not confuse it with the weekend Walking Street.

Move the walk to another day if arrival is late. Add immigration time if arriving on an international flight.

White Temple in the morning, an open afternoon

1. 01Leave around 08:00–08:30 for Wat Rong Khun. Plan roughly 25–45 minutes from your hotel and align arrival with the opening time for your date.
2. 02Take time over the white architecture and details. Follow the marked route and check interior photography rules and which exhibitions your ticket covers.
3. 03Return toward town around 11:30–12:00 and choose khao soi or nam ngiao for lunch. Save Baan Dam to the north for the following day.
4. 04Spend the afternoon by the pool, in the gardens or in your room. If adding a café, choose one in town and keep dinner convenient.

Bring a hat and water for bright reflections and stretches with little shade. Separate experiences or special exhibitions are not included in the budget.

From Baan Dam’s collection to the Blue Temple

1. 01Head north for a Baan Dam Museum visit around 09:00. Allow roughly 25–40 minutes from town and agree on a meeting point with your driver.
2. 02Explore the buildings and collection. Baan Dam is an art environment rather than another worship temple. If the display materials make a companion uncomfortable, shorten the visit and take a café break.
3. 03Stop at Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, on the way back toward town. Plan roughly 20–30 minutes for this leg, depending on traffic.
4. 04Have lunch after the visit and return to your hotel. Keep the afternoon free and select one riverside dinner from the options below.

The Golden Triangle or mountain tea areas would substantially change the travel load. If essential, replace an entire day and check separate vehicle quotes and current notices.

Keep the final day close to the airport route

1. 01Have breakfast, check out and collect your bags. Do not add another northern attraction simply because it looks close to the airport route.
2. 02For a domestic flight after 16:00, use a hotel departure around 12:30–13:00 as a planning example, adjusting to your airline’s requirements.
3. 03For an international flight, leave earlier to target airport arrival about three hours before departure, allowing for pickup and road delays.
4. 04Check the airport code and baggage arrangements for any Bangkok connection. With separate tickets, avoid a tight transfer and allow time to recheck bags.

If departing from Chiang Mai Airport, these airport-transfer assumptions do not apply. Plan the substantial intercity transfer separately.
